Fabric of Life is a research project visually exploring the ocean genome. While we were all confined in early 2021, the TARA Ocean Foundation sent, for the first time, their scientific research team to sequence the Atlantic Ocean genome. The purpose was to better understand the marine environment and its microbiota.

The variety of viruses and microorganisms present in the oceans is not as well known as one might think, and learning more about this microbiome could help us assess and mitigate the impact of climate change and pollution on ecosystems.

Isolated in my studio, far from the ocean, using a projector, a bowl of water, fabrics, and a digital camera, I used photography and composition to stimulate our imagination and wonder.
